Most Traveling Parents Are in Control

For the most part, Susan Spano’s list of traveling pet peeves (“Come to Think of It, a Few Things About Traveling Are Highly Annoying,” Her World, Feb. 10) was right on the money. That is, until I came to her complaint about “parents who don’t control their children.” It was there that I thought, “She obviously doesn’t have kids.”

As a parent of three, I do my best to keep my kids in line, whether in a four-star restaurant or at 30,000 feet. Unfortunately, these little people have minds of their own, and sometimes parental control has little impact, especially when they’re tired or sick.

Granted, a few parents don’t have a clue, but most are responsible and considerate. We parents are doing the best we can to make your flight more enjoyable.

Among the things Spano finds highly annoying are “pedestrians who wait for walk lights at intersections when there are no vehicles in sight” and “Americans who behave badly in foreign lands.”

Spano is perhaps unaware that not waiting for the light most probably violates a law in whatever land the incident might take place and that her willful flouting of that law would make her one of those badly behaved Americans.
