Schools Chief Wins Education Award
Ventura County Supt. of Schools Chuck Weis has received the Advocacy Award from the California Assn. for Bilingual Education.
The award honors educators who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to educating all California children, regardless of what language they speak.
Martha Hernandez, vice president of the association, said Weis has championed education efforts for students struggling to learn English.
That includes Weis’ work on the Public School Accountability Act Advisory Committee, on which he sought to ensure that English learners did not disproportionately suffer the consequences of changes to the school system.
