Man Arrested in Jewelry Thefts
Ventura police have arrested a man after he allegedly grabbed a necklace from a clerk in a jewelry shop and tried to flee.
Jeffrey Savala, 35, of Ventura entered the Joyeria El Mercadito shop on Ventura Avenue on Friday and asked to see a necklace, Police Lt. David Wilson said. When Savala was shown the jewelry, he allegedly grabbed it and ran out the door.
Savala was apprehended as he tried to drive away from the store, Wilson said.
Savala is also a suspect in recent thefts at two other Ventura jewelers, Lynn’s Jewelry and Daniel’s Jewelry, authorities said.
More than $8,000 in stolen jewelry was recovered from Savala, Wilson said.
