City Water Is Cut Off as Sewage Spill Continues

From Times Wire Reports

A raw sewage spill into the Russian River continued last week as state water officials tried to stop the contamination by temporarily shutting down city water pumps.

“The real concern here is this is pretty much raw waste water,” said John Short, a senior engineer with the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board.

The source of the sewage is a holding pond at a large Salvation Army housing facility north of Healdsburg. Part of a sewage system built to accommodate housing and community facilities at the center, it is believed to have been designed to handle about 9,000 gallons a day, Short said.
