School Health Care Programs Get $80,000
For the second year, a Kaiser Permanente initiative called Cares for Kids gave the Los Angeles Unified School District $80,000 to help increase student enrollment in low-cost or free health care programs.
About 1,500 low-income students--500 of whom are disqualified from state programs because they are not citizens--will benefit from renewed funding for coverage this year. The money will be used to coordinate coverage of the children through Medi-Cal, the Healthy Families program for working poor families or Kaiser itself.
