Two Latino Democrats seeking the Texas governor’s office will hold the state’s first Spanish-language debate between gubernatorial candidates, a sign of the growing clout of Latino voters, campaign officials in Austin said.

Multimillionaire Laredo businessman, banker and oil company owner Tony Sanchez and former Texas Atty. Gen. Dan Morales will debate twice on television, once in Spanish and once in English, their campaigns said.

Sanchez and Morales are vying in the Democratic primary March 12 to face Republican Gov. Rick Perry in November.
