Angel Announcer Departs

After seven years as the Angels’ lead radio announcer, Mario Impemba is leaving to become the Detroit Tigers’ cable television play-by-play announcer.

Impemba will work with Kirk Gibson on Fox Sports Net Detroit telecasts.

The Angels now have two openings for radio announcers. Daron Sutton was hired by the Milwaukee Brewers last month.

Impemba, 38, is a native of Detroit and a graduate of Michigan State.

“I had two goals when I got into this business,” Impemba said. “One was to broadcast big league games, which I achieved with the Angels.

“The second was to do that in Detroit.”

Before joining the Angels in 1995, Impemba announced minor league baseball in Tucson; Davenport, Iowa; and Peoria, Ill.
