State Funds to Help Chavez Day Projects

Two Orange County-based projects will get about $143,000 as part of the second annual Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning scheduled for April 1.

The Volunteer Center Orange County in Santa Ana, working with the Orange County Department of Education and Second Harvest Food Bank, will get about $58,000 to send 2,800 fourth-graders into the fields to harvest vegetables for the county’s homeless and hungry. And Cal State Fullerton will receive about $85,000 to engage 420 elementary school students in a variety of service projects.
