Motorist Injured in Freeway Crash
A Port Hueneme man was in critical but stable condition Thursday night after he crashed his Oldsmobile sedan into a sign and over an embankment near the Conejo Grade, authorities said.
David Matthew Starbuck, 21, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injuries, including a fractured skull, and was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Reid said.
Authorities believe Starbuck may have been under the influence of alcohol and are awaiting blood-test results, Reid said.
The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound Ventura Freeway just past the Conejo Grade truck scales.
