Building to Reopen; Costs Questioned
The Hart Senate Office Building, which has been closed since October because of anthrax contamination, was cleared to reopen Tuesday as Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) expressed concern over the $14-million tab for cleaning up the bacteria in congressional buildings.
Grassley voiced concern about the cost in a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Whitman. He asked for a response next week on the process used to hire the private contractors, names of the companies selected, the services they provided and projected final costs of the cleanup.
