Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events
The following is a list of some of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day events scheduled today in Ventura County:
* A march from Plaza Park to the Oxnard Performing Arts Center will begin at 8:15 a.m. At the arts center, there will be several speakers. Walkers can park at 800 Hobson Way and take a shuttle bus to Plaza Park.
* The Ventura County Rescue Mission will hold a banquet and salute to King starting at 11:30 a.m. Events will include a reenactment of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The mission is at 234 E. 6th St.
* Ojai will offer a series of concerts, poetry readings and art displays. Discussions on racism and cultural awareness will be held at Chaparral Continuation High School’s auditorium. Bands will perform from noon to 5 p.m. at Libbey Park, located at the corner of Signal Street and Ojai Avenue.
* Simi Valley Second Missionary Baptist Church at 1063 Pacific Ave. will feature a sermon at 10 a.m. offered by Assemblyman Carl Washington (D-Paramount).
