Princess Leia, Back at the Ranch

The force is with Carrie Fisher. The actress and author who first came to stardom as Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” trilogy has nabbed a rare TV interview with her former boss, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, for the latest installment of Oxygen’s “Conversations From the Edge With Carrie Fisher,” premiering Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.

The two reunite in the library of Lucas’ picturesque Skywalker Ranch in Northern California for a freewheeling discussion, with Lucas disclosing how he chose Fisher for the role and what the origin of her unusual dual-bun hairstyle was.

Lucas also surprises Fisher with her screen test for “Star Wars” and reveals that Terri Nunn, the lead singer of the rock group Berlin, was his second choice for Princess Leia.

“George Lucas doesn’t like doing interviews all that much, but he’s extremely comfortable with Carrie,” said the show’s executive producer, Neal Kendall. “And Carrie was just ecstatic. They have remained friends, but she had not been up to the ranch in a long time.”

Lucas, who is starting to rev up the buzz machine for the next “Star Wars” installment, “Episode 2--Attack of the Clones,” is also the subject of a new A&E; biography that premiered Sunday and will air several times this month.
