Suspect Surrenders in Fatal Shooting of Friend
A Los Angeles man wanted for allegedly shooting and killing a longtime friend turned himself in to police early Monday.
Kenny Wayne Compton, 36, walked into the Los Angeles Police Department’s downtown headquarters at 3:50 a.m., said Officer Nadine Hernandez.
Compton was being sought for allegedly shooting Kenneth J. Shufford, 36, on Jan. 3 at Edgewood Place and Queen Anne Place in the Wilshire area, said Det. Frank Bolan.
“There was an argument between the two, it escalated and Compton armed himself with a shotgun,” Bolan said.
“The suspect then fired at the victim, striking him in the chest,” he said.
Shufford died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center eight days later, authorities said.
