Officer’s Condition Critical After Crash
A Santa Ana police officer involved in a wreck this week remains in intensive care after undergoing surgery Wednesday for head injuries, Sgt. Joe Kahapea said.
The accident occurred at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when the officer, whose name has not been released, hit a utility pole after swerving to avoid a Honda Accord that ran a red light at McFadden Avenue and Bristol Street. The officer was on his way to provide backup to another officer pursuing a stolen vehicle and had the siren and emergency lights on.
The driver of the Honda did not stop. Police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run. The Honda was described as an older model, dark-colored, four-door Accord, police said.
Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the department at (714) 245-8214.
