Tizbud to Make Debut

Share

After a stakes-filled card on Saturday, things quiet considerably today at Hollywood Park.

The feature attraction is the $75,000 Great Lady M. Stakes for fillies and mares at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf, but the most interesting race on the program might be the third.

The six-furlong main track sprint drew a field of seven California-bred maidens and the colt breaking from the outside has quite a family legacy to live up to as he makes his first start.

Tizbud is by the sire Cee’s Tizzy out of the mare Cee’s Song, making him a full brother to Tiznow, the only two-time winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and multiple-stakes winner Budroyale.

Bred by the late Cece Straub Rubens, Tizbud was originally in the barn of Tiznow’s trainer, Jay Robbins, but apparently two Breeders’ Cup victories weren’t enough for owner Michael Cooper, and the colt was transferred to John Sadler’s stable. Tizbud is the 2-1 favorite on the morning line.

About 30 minutes before that race, Gygistar, a 3-year-old Prospector’s Music gelding, will try for his fourth consecutive win and fifth in six starts in the $150,000 Dwyer at Belmont Park.

His main rival in the field of six is Yankee Gentleman, who was the beaten favorite in the Riva Ridge.

Race of the day: The sixth at Hollywood Park is a competitive $62,000 allowance at one mile on the turf. The race brings out, among others, comebackers Marine and Fateful Dream for trainer Bobby Frankel and Special Ring, who went too fast for his own good in the Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Who’s hot: Johnny Show. The 5-year-old gelding will try for his seventh win in a row in today’s $50,000 Alamedan Handicap at Pleasanton.

Who’s not: Roberto Gonzalez. The jockey opened Pleasanton winning with only one of his first 20 mounts.
