“Gustave Le Gray, Photographer,” which opened earlier this week at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center, is billed as the largest exhibition of works in America by one of France’s most important photographers. The survey will include the seascapes and cloud studies that made him famous, as well as atmospheric forest scenes, portraits of Napoleon III and his wife and Paris landscapes made between the early 1850s and 1867.

It’s been a quarter-century since American Ballet Theatre has put as many international stars into a single Southern California performance as will shine in “Le Corsaire” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion tonight. Other performances in the four-day engagement will offer stars as well, but the glittering opening-night lineup is headed by Russia’s Nina Ananiashvili, Argentina’s Julio Bocca, Cuba’s Jose Manuel Carreno, Spain’s Angel Corella and Joaquin De Luz, plus America’s own Gillian Murphy. With lesser principals in Orange County, the ballet itself seemed a cheesy retread of the 19th century Russian repertory--nonessential viewing except when cast like this.

The French gypsy-klezmer ensemble Les Yeux Noirs comes to the free outdoor Summer Sunset Concert series at the Skirball Cultural Center. Led by a pair of violinist brothers, Les Yeux Noirs (“The Black Eyes”) performs the joyful folk music of the former Yugoslavia, Hungary, Romania and the rest of Eastern Europe.

Helen Hunt and Tim Robbins will star in a staged reading of journalist Anne Nelson’s emotionally charged drama “The Guys” at the Actors’ Gang in Hollywood. The play was inspired by Nelson’s experience in helping a New York City fire captain prepare eulogies for his men who were killed Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center. Still in production off-Broadway, a few blocks north of ground zero, “The Guys” has been performed by a rotating cast of actors--Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Susan Sarandon and Anthony LaPaglia, among them. Slated for an indefinite run here, the show will feature a different cast every three weeks; Hunt and Robbins will perform through July 28.
