Steve Grossman, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, bowed out of the Democratic race for governor, narrowing the field to four.

Grossman, who spent more than $4 million on his campaign, said he made the decision after poll numbers showed his candidacy stalled in single digits.

Grossman said he had no plans to endorse any of the remaining Democrats on the ticket.

Mitt Romney, the former Salt Lake City Olympics chief, is the Republican Party’s candidate. Acting Gov. Jane Swift, a Republican, dropped out of the race in March.

Grossman, 56, had poor showings in polls despite the support of former President Clinton.
