New Owners Take Helm of Historic Riverboat
The Delta Queen riverboat, the National Historic Landmark that has plied the rivers of the South and Midwest for decades, begins its first season under new owners on Aug. 26. Fares have been cut from last year, a spokeswoman said.
The boat is operated by Delta Queen Steamboat Co., whose former parent company, American Classic Voyages, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization last fall.
The steamboat company is now a subsidiary of Delaware North Cos., which bought the Delta Queen and two of its sister vessels, the American Queen and Mississippi Queen, in a court-supervised auction in May. (Acquisition of a fourth boat, the Columbia Queen, by American West Steamboat Co. is pending. It is expected to go into service next year on the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest.) The Mississippi Queen is sailing; the American Queen will resume Jan. 18.
