Coach Admits to 3 Sex Charges
A former volunteer wrestling coach at Moorpark High School has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old female student, a Ventura County prosecutor said Tuesday.
Andrew Paul Fonseca, 23, remained in Ventura County Jail on Tuesday, pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 16, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Tamara Bogosian. He faces more than four years in state prison.
Before the start of a preliminary hearing last week, Fonseca admitted to three felonies, including having unlawful intercourse with a minor, penetration with a foreign object and oral copulation.
Fonseca was an unpaid coach during the wrestling season that ended in February.
He was arrested later that month after high school officials notified the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department of allegations that he was sexually involved with a student.
A fourth sex charge will be dropped at sentencing.
