Surf’s up in Laguna in more ways than one as the Laguna Art Museum hosts the waves-inspired survey “Surf Culture: The Art History of Surfing,” beginning Sunday. The curators look to make a connection by surveying a cross-disciplinary group: artists who surf and surfers who make art, including quintessential California artists like Robert Irwin and Billy Al Bengston.

Museum hours--A Best Bet in Thursday’ Calendar Weekend gave incorrect information for the Laguna Art Museum’s “Surf Culture” exhibition. From July 28 through Oct. 6, the museum will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and admission will be $7 for adults, and $5 for seniors and students.

“Surf Culture: The Art History of Surfing,” Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach. Ends Oct. 6. Daily, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Wednesdays. Sunday to Sept. 2, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Adults, $5; seniors and students, $4; children 12 and younger, free. (949) 494-8971.

Nigeria’s Femi Anikulapo-Kuti returns to the U.S. to headline Sunday’s KCRW-sponsored World Festival evening of Afro-pop at the Hollywood Bowl. Along with Kuti’s hypnotic yet danceable Afro-funk will be Michael Franti & Spearhead’s politically charged atmospheric grooves and Bongo Maffin’s South African fusion of jazz, hip-hop and reggae.
