Surf’s up in Laguna in more ways than one as the Laguna Art Museum hosts the waves-inspired survey “Surf Culture: The Art History of Surfing,” beginning Sunday. The curators look to make a connection by surveying a cross-disciplinary group: artists who surf and surfers who make art, including quintessential California artists like Robert Irwin and Billy Al Bengston.

Nigeria’s Femi Anikulapo-Kuti returns to the U.S. to headline Sunday’s KCRW-sponsored World Festival evening of Afro-pop at the Hollywood Bowl. Along with Kuti’s hypnotic yet danceable Afro-funk will be Michael Franti & Spearhead’s politically charged atmospheric grooves and Bongo Maffin’s South African fusion of jazz, hip-hop and reggae.
