Morning Snow May Be in Forecast

Share

If Morning Snow wins for the fifth time in six starts tonight, the 2-year-old This Snow Is Royal filly will be two-thirds of the way to a very healthy bonus.

By virtue of her victory in the Kindergarten Futurity on May 18, the Texas-bred is the only horse eligible to win a $1-million bonus by sweeping the Kindergarten, Ed Burke Memorial Futurity and Los Alamitos Million.

She’ll try to win the 350-yard Burke, a Grade I that carries a $436,000 purse, against nine others. Morning Snow is the 5-2 second choice in Ed Burgart’s morning line.

Owned by Charles and Dixie Patterson and trained by Donna McArthur, Morning Snow is unbeaten in three races at Los Alamitos and upset stablemate Lonely Moon Sign when taking the Kindergarten by a neck.

The 6-5 morning line favorite is Straw Flying Dash, who was the fastest qualifier for the Burke as he sizzled 350 yards in 17.38 seconds. He is unbeaten in three starts for owners Micah Leslie and Link Newcomb and trainer Dan Francisco.

The picks: 1. Private Flyin. 2. Frenchly. 3. Woody Dot Com. 4. Bluegrass Prince. 5. Mary Blue Beduino. 6. Issues Falstaff. 7. Braces Keeper. 8. Pats Charming Guy. 9. Straw Flying Dash. 10. Especialy Red Hot. 11. Lucky Red Hot.

Four! Use Private Flyin and OK Leter Rip in the first, single Frenchly in the second, use The Prince Is Back, Woody Dot Com and Flirtatious Fred in the third and First Perfect Royal, Bluegrass Prince, Beduinos Breeze and Bud A Bing in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: India Lee makes her first start for sharp trainer Adan Farias in the seventh. Red Lipstick has won all four of her starts and has to be respected again at healthy odds in the 10th.
