Cinquanta Is Reelected as ISU President

Ottavio Cinquanta was elected to a third consecutive term as president of the International Skating Union by acclamation Friday, affirming his mandate to develop the reform project he backed during the organization’s biennial Congress.

“We are not in the best moment, but we have given evidence we are proactive and responsible,” he said, referring to the Salt Lake City Olympic judging scandal and the ISU’s resulting decision to change its judging process.

David Dore of Canada upset Katsuichiro Hasanaga of Japan for second vice president, figure skating. Gerhard Zimmermann of Germany was reelected first vice president, speed skating.

In the only significant victory for the U.S. Figure Skating Assn. this week, its president, Phyllis Howard, was elected a member of the ISU Council. Also elected as figure skating Council members were Marie Lundmark of Finland, Tjasa Andree-Prosenc of Slovenia and Courtney Jones of Great Britain.
