From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Port officials are looking for prospective tenants who could help build a deepwater terminal that would allow some of the world’s largest oil tankers to dock there, officials announced Friday.

The Port of Long Beach plans to build and lease a 5-acre facility that would be developed just south of the Fremont Forest lumber terminal and the BP oil terminal, officials said. The new facility would be used mostly for receiving crude oil and other petroleum products, and would include a 76-foot-deep docking berth for tankers.

The facility would allow ships as big as 320,000 tons to dock there, officials said. Port officials are looking for a tenant who would build the loading and unloading equipment and other structures, including pipelines leading to off-site storage areas. Applications must be submitted by July 17. Call properties director Hal Duensing at (562) 590-4162.
