Opponent: Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Series: Monday, 4:15 p.m.; Tuesday, 4:15 p.m.; Wednesday, 4:15 p.m.

Site: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Matchup: Moments after batting practice concluded Wednesday, 14 players filed into the Devil Rays’ training room, where Manager Hal McRae told them to relax and have fun. That night, the worst team in the major leagues had 16 hits in an 8-6 victory over Toronto, only the third time in 19 games the Devil Rays had scored eight or more runs. With a .248 average with runners in scoring position and a lack of power and speed, Tampa Bay has presented a less-than-formidable challenge. The Devil Rays were batting an American League-worst .233 through Tuesday. They stranded 62 runners and converted 65 hits and 21 walks into 20 runs the previous six games.

Opponent: Angels

Series: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.

Site: Dodger Stadium.

Matchup: Despite a nagging left knee injury that keeps him out of the lineup on occasion, left fielder Brian Jordan started the weekend having hit .420 (21 for 50) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 12 RBIs in his past 14 games. After going hitless in three straight games, third baseman Adrian Beltre went on a tear in Colorado last week, going 8 for 15 with two homers and six RBIs in three games. Right fielder Shawn Green has cooled considerably since his weeklong tear from May 21-26, going four for 21 in seven games before the weekend.
