Geoff Hoyle, who originated the role of Zazu in the Broadway production of “The Lion King,” has been compared to Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harpo Marx for his wildly inventive brand of physical comedy. The actor-clown serves up new comic material and such Hoyle classics as bulb-nosed Mr. Sniff in the world premiere of his show, “A Feast of Fools,” a wacky mix that includes on-stage accompaniment by composer and multi-instrumentalist Gina Leishman.

In a deserted theater about to be razed to make way for a parking lot, former chorus girls and their loves--present and former--face the ghosts of their past in “Follies.” The bittersweet Stephen Sondheim-James Goldman musical, full of such classics as “I’m Still Here” and “Losing My Mind,” juxtaposes the retro follies numbers with Sondheim’s more contemporary character-

developing songs, a musical parallel to the past and present lives of the characters. This Reprise! Broadway’s Best production, directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, stars Vikki Carr, Patty Duke, Harry Groener, Jack Carter, Carole Cook, Amanda McBroom and other veterans of stage and screen.

Although Ft. Tejon was never the site of any real battles during the Civil War, the Ft. Tejon Historical Assn.’s monthly Civil War battle reenactments are a vast improvement on the originals. They only last 30 minutes and no one gets killed or wounded. Not a gangrenous limb in sight. And unlike real wars, you can bring a picnic lunch to this encounter. Guided tours of the Union and Confederate camps will be given between skirmishes.

Two recent Japanese anime offerings begin a three-day run Sunday at the New Beverly Cinema. “Metropolis,” a gorgeously animated film influenced by its Fritz Lang namesake, as well as by “Blade Runner” and “Akira,” is based on a comic by anime pioneer Osamu Tezuka and set in a future when robots are nearly indistinguishable from humans. In “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust,” a mysterious figure competes with a brother team of bounty hunters to save an affluent family’s abducted daughter from a notorious bloodsucker.
