EASY AS WIND

Share

Easy as wind that lifts white pine

and blows for flowers, showering rose

petals on cold marble statues,

we touch and separate.

I am familiar

with water burning the land,

turning catbrier to red-brown wire,

clinging to live. I have seen flame

waiting to burn, altering shadows,

striking rectangles beyond the trees.

Even the sea collects its powers and strikes,

baffling the sand’s composure.

But now, suddenly,

wherever I look I see wind

I cannot see, touching nowhere, everywhere.
