Woman Sentenced in Girl’s Beating Death

A North Hollywood woman was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in prison for the August beating death of her live-in boyfriend’s 3 1/2-year-old daughter in a case described by a judge as the worst instance of child abuse he has seen.
Jenara Mercedes Valle, 33, was convicted on May 24 of assault on a child leading to death.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson described the beating death of Maria Mejia as “incomprehensible cruelty.”
