Deal Equally With Tax Transgressions

Share

In the name of fairness, let’s decide that either all commonly known areas of tax underreporting--such as tips and, say, the setting up of sham offshore company headquarters--be dealt with equally [“IRS Can Estimate Tip Income, Justices Rule,” June 18].

They all are fully taxed, by IRS approximation if necessary, or they all are allowed to continue underreporting their real incomes.

What will actually happen? Diners, through increased prices to cover the IRS tip tax assessments, will be forced into wage subsidy for tipped employees.

Large corporations, meanwhile, will decry the “heavy hand of government” when we dare question their sham corporations.
