John Berberich, 64; Police Psychologist Profiled Ted Bundy

John Berberich, 64, a police psychologist who was the first to draw up a profile of serial killer Ted Bundy, died at a hospital in Bellevue, Wash., on Wednesday after apparently suffering a heart attack while playing golf.
Bob Keppel, an investigative consultant who once worked for the state attorney general’s office in Washington, credited Berberich with doing the first profile on Bundy in 1974.
An associate professor of psychology at the University of Washington, Berberich worked extensively as a consultant to police agencies and courts, developing and administering psychological tests for new police officers. He also taught at the FBI Academy.
Born in Los Angeles, Berberich served in the Marine Corps. He attended UCLA, where he played basketball under coach John Wooden and was a co-captain on the 1960-61 team, and later earned his PhD at UCLA.
