2 Principals Shift Posts to Fill Sudden Vacancy
Oxnard Elementary School District trustees approved two new principal assignments this week, after the sudden resignation of the principal at Brekke Elementary School.
Renee Ripps, principal at Haydock Intermediate School, will take over at Brekke next month for Anthony Zubia, who quit June 17 after 30 years with the district.
Supt. Richard Duarte would not comment on the circumstances surrounding Zubia’s departure, saying it is a personnel matter.
Zubia, reached at his Oxnard home, said he resigned “for personal reasons,” and declined to elaborate.
Duarte said Harrington Elementary Principal Francisco Barba will take over at Haydock. Both appointments were made at a special meeting of the school board Monday night.
The district will advertise for the position at Harrington in hopes of filling it by this fall, Duarte said. A retired principal will take on the post temporarily, he said.
