Paralyzed Boy’s Family to Receive $80 Million
An $80-million settlement has been reached with the family of a boy left paralyzed when he was struck in a crosswalk by a car driven by a Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District employee, an attorney for the family said.
Diego Medina was 7 when he was struck, along with his 15-year-old brother, Arturo, on Jan. 16, 2001, said attorney Daniel Rodriguez of Bakersfield.
Diego suffered a broken neck and will require medical care for the rest of his life, Rodriguez said. Arturo suffered a badly broken leg. Another brother, Rogelio, 14, was traumatized when he witnessed the accident, Rodriguez said.
School district officials did not return a call for comment Friday.
