A police officer was injured Monday when a driver turned his truck into the path of the officer’s motorcycle, investigators said.
Officer James McElhinney, 32, was searching for a shooting suspect at Bradford and Chapman avenues at 12:25 p.m. and was on Bradford when a black pickup truck pulled out of a shopping-center parking lot, failed to yield to McElhinney’s lights and siren and turned left. McElhinney was thrown over the front of the truck.
The driver, Tomie Stevenson, 49, of Brea, was being held at the Orange County Jail and faces hit-and-run charges, police said.
The officer had surgery for leg fractures at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
