AOL Time Warner Inc. said the president of its high-speed Web unit would step down, as the world’s largest media and Internet company seeks to persuade customers to sign up for the costlier fast service.

Audrey Weil, at America Online since 1988, is taking “a well- deserved break” in May and will return a few months later in a new job, Chief Operating Officer Mike Kelly said in a memo to employees. Lisa Hook, president of the AOL Anywhere mobile service, will become president of AOL Broadband; she will continue to run the wireless unit until the company finds a replacement, the memo said.

AOL Time Warner shares rose 60 cents to $26.45 on the NYSE.
