Soccer in L.A.

Re “Soccer Is Kicking Into L.A.’s Future,” Commentary, March 3: As a Galaxy fan, I was at least as happy as Frank del Olmo about the groundbreaking of the soccer stadium in Carson last week. So I was disappointed to read a couple of misapprehensions on his part. The Coliseum has proven again and again its complete unfitness to host top-quality soccer events. The reason for this is entirely due to the Coliseum Commission and its unwillingness to provide soccer fans with basic security. I’ll leave it to Del Olmo to decide why USC fans have more than adequate security while soccer fans don’t.

Del Olmo apparently feels the Galaxy plays in a so-so league. What part of “Los Angeles Galaxy, reigning champions of North America” does he not understand?
