Ahmanson Report Will Follow Normal Route

From Times Staff Reports

Ventura County supervisors won’t be the first to review a follow-up environmental report on the 3,050-home Ahmanson Ranch housing project.

The board this week refused to consider Supervisor Steve Bennett’s recommendation that the environmental report go directly to the board for review. His colleagues said the report should follow the usual process of review by county staff and the Planning Commission before reaching them.

Opponents of the project wanted supervisors to weigh in on any concerns they had on the study sooner rather than later. The study, the second ordered for the housing project near the county’s eastern edge, outlines how developers can protect a threatened frog and wildflower found on the property.

The project was approved in 1992 but has been delayed by 18 lawsuits filed by opponents.
