Riffing on the conventions of buddy-cop movies and reality TV, the action-comedy “Showtime” pairs Robert De Niro as a grumpy, shopworn detective with telegenic patrol officer Eddie Murphy. The unlikely duo is featured in a reality-based TV show produced by ratings-hungry Rene Russo.

“Showtime,” rated PG-13 for action violence, language and some drug content, opens Friday in general release.

11:30am Parade

We’re not sure exactly how St. Patrick, early Catholic missionary to the Irish Druids, evolved into the patron saint of firefighters, but that does seem to be the case. Los Angeles city firefighters, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Police Department, will be the hosts of their third annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Los Angeles. Bagpipers and Celtic dancers will entertain the crowd. There’ll also be marching bands and antique fire engines from all around the Los Angeles area. Celebrity grand marshals will be pop music recording artist Sheila E and her father, Latin jazz percussionist Pete Escobedo.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade, starting point is Flower and 4th streets, downtown L.A. Ends at Pershing Square. 11:30 a.m. Free. (310) 537-4240.

8pm Music

Continuing the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s season-long Schoenberg Prism, American pianist Peter Serkin devotes the first half of his recital in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to works by the late Viennese American master: the Three Pieces of Opus 11, Five Pieces, Opus 23 and the Suite, Opus 25. Beethoven’s late period takes up the second half, with the Bagatelles, Opus 126 and the beloved, still-revelatory E-major Sonata of Opus 109.

8pm Dance

Anyone who’s watched flamenco firebrand Antonio Marquez flatten audiences in the Latin world has already bought tickets to see the Compania Espanola de Antonio Marquez on its first visit to the Southland. Everyone else will have to scramble to catch Marquez, the next big world-dance sensation. In collaboration with his ensemble of 17 dancers and six musicians, he’ll perform choreography by Jose Granero, Javier La Torre and his own. Born in Seville in 1963, Marquez gained the title of “king of flamenco” only last October when he danced for King Juan Carlos of Spain at the Royal Theatre in Madrid. But his style is definitely more feral than regal: passionate, assaultive and charismatic.

Compania Espanola de Antonio Marquez, Riverside Municipal Auditorium, 3485 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside. 8 p.m. $12 to $24. (909) 788-3944. Also Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, 12700 Center Court Drive, Cerritos. $40 to $55. (562) 916-8500. Also March 21 at 8 p.m. , California Center for the Arts, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido. $20 to $50. (619) 220-TIXS. Also March 22 at 8 p.m., Smothers Theatre, Pepperdine University, 24255 PCH, Malibu. $40. (310) 506-4522.
