Authorities warned Maywood residents on Thursday about a group of men posing as police officers and committing home invasion robberies.

The men sometimes wear black “raid” jackets and black baseball caps with the LAPD logo, said Maywood police Sgt. Mark Van Holt.

The first crime occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 12, when several armed men entered a home as the resident was going to bed, said Van Holt. They shoved the man to the floor, bound his hands and ransacked his home.

About 11:15 p.m. on March 6, a resident answered a knock on his door and was confronted by two men, Van Holt said.

“They shined a flashlight into his eyes and told him they were the police,” Van Holt said.

The robbers entered the residence and bound the man’s hands, Van Holt said. The man’s girlfriend and her two children were also in the home. No one was hurt. The men fled with money, jewelry and electronic items.

“Residents should make sure that officers are wearing a standard police-type uniform with an identifiable badge that should have the city or county name on it from the agency they represent,” he said.

Anyone with more information is urged to call Maywood police at (323) 562-5005.
