In what he called his best round of the year, Tiger Woods birdied five of the first 10 holes and wound up with a seven-under-par 65 on Friday, giving him a four-shot lead over Scott McCarron heading into the weekend in the Bay Hill Invitational at Orlando, Fla.

Woods, looking for his first victory of the year, was at 12-under 132 and had the third-largest lead after 36 holes in his career. He led the 2000 NEC Invitational by seven shots and the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by six shots after two rounds, both times going on to win by double digits.

McCarron had a bogey-free 67 and was at 136, with Ernie Els (67) and Angel Cabrera of Argentina (70) another stroke back. John Daly followed his 67 with a 71 and was at 138.
