Don’t Allow Big Business to Destroy Habitat

Share

Re “Judge Overturns ‘Critical Habitat’ of 2 Species,” Feb. 26:

The fact that the Rancho Mission Viejo developers and the toll road agencies are suing to overturn critical habitat for endangered species because of financial concerns raises many questions.

Why isn’t the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service doing its job to protect the species for which it fought so hard to protect with a critical habitat?

How naive is it to think that the 14,000 houses, a toll road and the malls and gas stations that will follow won’t affect the habitat of endangered species? Why is President Bush’s administration so hot to remove critical habitat for nearly 100 endangered species? How can we be expected to stand by and allow big business and misguided politicians to make decisions that will affect the future of many species, but also the way of life for those of us who value open spaces, clean water and clean air?
