Blast at U.S. Embassy Reportedly Kills Four
An explosion outside the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru’s capital, killed at least four people, local media reported. The blast comes three days before President Bush’s visit.
Details about the casualties were not clear, and some reports said the death toll from the apparent car bombing was as high as 10. At least four bodies could be seen, radio reports said.
A State Department official said no American citizens were hurt in the explosion.
Bush is set to arrive in Lima on Saturday for a meeting with Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo and other regional leaders.
The blast occurred about 10:45 p.m. The embassy is in an area that is popular at night.
