Illegal Dumper Gets Dumped On
The official charge was illegal dumping. It might as well have been terrible timing.
Mario Leon, 21, pleaded guilty in Superior Court to dumping a pile of wood remnants at the city-owned Fiesta Island on Mission Bay. On Friday, he was fined $250.
According to court papers, Leon picked the worst time to do his dumping: just as city officials were holding a news conference a dozen yards away to announce a crackdown on illegal dumping.
City Atty. Casey Gwinn and Councilwoman Donna Frye followed Leon’s truck and Gwinn made a citizen’s arrest.
A permit to dump the wood in a city landfill would have cost $10, officials noted.
