Mike Comrie scored his 30th goal of the season and Tommy Salo stopped 22 shots, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks, 2-0, Sunday night at Vancouver, Canada.

Ryan Smyth also scored for the Oilers, who won their season-best fifth game in a row and moved into a tie with Dallas for eighth place in the Western Conference.

The loss was Vancouver’s second in a row after five consecutive victories and left the Canucks three points behind the Stars and Oilers.

Dallas has played two fewer games than Vancouver and Edmonton.

Comrie opened the scoring 8:38 into the first period when he banged home a rebound from the side of an empty net just as the first penalty in a two-man Edmonton power play expired.

Pittsburgh 6, Washington 2--Randy Robitaille had a goal and two assists to help the Penguins get their first home-ice victory in regulation time since Jan. 23, when they defeated Tampa Bay, 5-1.

They had four overtime victories, six losses and a tie since then.

Robitaille had one of three second-period goals that put the game away and helped the Penguins go 2-0-2 against the Capitals this season.

An in-season waiver wire pickup from the Kings, Robitaille has nine points in his last five games.

Jaromir Jagr’s turnover led to a 2-on-1 against Olaf Kolzig at 11:55 and Robitaille slammed in Ville Niemenin’s pass to put Pittsburgh ahead, 4-1.

Buffalo 3, Ottawa 2--Eric Rasmussen scored 1:27 into overtime at Ottawa.

Sabre defenseman Brian Campbell scored with 3:05 left in regulation to tie the score and Rasmussen put a rebound of Maxim Afinogenov’s shot past Patrick Lalime to raise Buffalo’s overtime record to 4-1-9.

Boston 4, Tampa Bay 3--Bill Guerin scored a breakaway goal with 24.5 seconds left in overtime at Tampa, Fla., enabling the Bruins to win their fifth consecutive game.

The Bruins have a four-point lead over Philadelphia for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Boston has played three more games than the Flyers.

Vaclav Prospal had two goals for Tampa Bay, which had a franchise record-tying seven-game unbeaten streak end.

Chicago 4, St. Louis 3--Eric Daze scored his second goal of the game on a power play with 1:18 left in overtime at Chicago to lead the Blackhawks.
