The U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo reopened after shutting down last week amid fears that Al Qaeda terrorists were planning an attack on Americans in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“We reassessed the situation, and the latest assessment was that it is appropriate to reopen,” said embassy spokeswoman Karen Williams.

The embassy closed to the public Wednesday, saying it had received word of a possible terrorist threat. It shut down entirely Friday.

U.S. officials have declined to give specifics about the threat, but a high-ranking Bosnian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Saturday that members of the Al Qaeda network were planning an attack last week after meeting in Bulgaria to identify targets.
