Police Slaying of Man Captured on Videotape
Police analyzed a videotape Wednesday showing a fatal confrontation in which officers fired 39 shots at a mentally ill man.
The video of Friday’s shooting of Alejandro Jimenez, 24, of El Cajon was captured by two Swiss tourists who had followed police to an outdoor shopping plaza northeast of downtown San Diego.
The pair gave the video and still photographs to authorities, said Lt. Mike Hurley of the San Diego Police Department, who is leading an internal probe of the shooting.
Seven officers fired at Jimenez. It was not yet known how many shots hit him, Hurley said. Jimenez’s family is protesting the shooting.
