Things Have Been Turning Out Fine for Guce

Share

Ramon Guce has been dynamite in races around a turn at Los Alamitos and the jockey has three more live chances tonight.

In the first, a 41/2-furlong race for $5,000 maiden fillies and mares, Guce will be on Forever Jan, who should be a short price to earn her first victory in her fifth career start. The Ole’ filly has not been close in three races at Santa Anita this year.

Two races later, Guce will ride Mistyr Sam, a 7-year-old Arabian gelding, who drops to the $5,000 level after finishing second at nearly 20-1 against $6,250 claimers 11 nights ago.

He will break from Post 2 in the field of six going 41/2 furlongs.

In the fifth, the night’s other thoroughbred race, Guce will ride Admiral Challenge, a front-running type who will be trying for his second consecutive victory for trainer Elmer January.

The picks: 1. Forever Jan. 2. Chispiro. 3. Raambo. 4. First Steps Special. 5. Admiral Challenge. 6. BW Beduina. 7. Solar Dash. 8. Makin Memories.

Four! Single Forever Jan in the first, use Chispiro and Tierra Firme in the second, Raambo, Fmr Petes Sake, Scheriff and Seyvilla Samsagain in the third and First Steps Special, Sweet Mama Gene and Crimson Jess in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Perfect Platinum hopped in the air at the break in her bow for trainer Chuck Treece and now drops in class in tonight’s sixth. Boys N Berry adds Lasix and switches to Joe Badilla Jr. after a claim in the eighth and final race.
