Killer Found Unconscious in Prison Cell
Juan Corona, convicted in the 1970s of hacking 25 farm workers to death, was in stable condition Thursday after prison officers found him unconscious in his cell earlier this week, the state Department of Corrections said.
He was placed on a respirator in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital Tuesday, where his condition was listed as “guarded.”
A farm labor contractor, Corona was convicted in the murders of 25 farm workers, whose hacked and slashed bodies were found in shallow graves near Yuba City in 1971. He was convicted in 1973.
Corona, 68, was being held in the Protective Housing Unit at California State Prison, Corcoran.
