Big Tymers, ‘Spider-Man,’ Carlton Debut in the Top 5

The New Orleans rap duo the Big Tymers top the nation’s album sales chart this week, leading a rush of three new releases--including the “Spider-Man” soundtrack collection--that claim three of the five top chart positions.

The pair’s “Hood Rich” sold 160,000 copies last week, trailed by Ashanti’s self-titled debut collection, which sold 128,000. The New York R&B; singer’s album has now sold 1.2 million copies in five weeks, according to SoundScan.

The other arrivals were “Spider-Man” and Vanessa Carlton’s “Be Not Nobody,” which placed No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The “Spider-Man” package, which features tracks by promising young rock bands such as the Strokes and the Hives, sold 112,000 copies, while the 19-year-old pop singer-songwriter’s debut package sold 102,000.

The remaining positions in the top 10 were claimed, in order, by Kenny Chesney, Celine Dion, Vol. 9 of the “Now That’s What I Call Music” compilation, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban and the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack.

The second 10 spots were claimed by Pink, Shakira, “The Scorpion King” soundtrack, Tweet, the “Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones” soundtrack, Ludacris, Bonnie Raitt, System of a Down, Puddle of Mudd and Linkin Park. The best-selling single for the seventh consecutive week is ‘N Sync’s pairing with Nelly on “Girlfriend.”
