Visiting NoHo-- Morning to Night

NoHo is a working, breathing neighborhood. It doesn’t dress up for the tourists, but it will put out the welcome mat for any visitors. It’s hard to do a day in NoHo; theaters open in the evenings; some of the best meals there are for breakfast. But the following are some of the jewels discovered during a monthlong day in NoHo.

The comedy club-cafe that’s a sign of night life on Lankershim SoMa--south of Magnolia.

5. Lankershim Arts Center

The city-owned center in a former DWP building offers a full slate of theater workshops, computer classes, readings and art shows. Home to the Road Theatre Company, which performs primarily Los Angeles premieres of new American plays, often with a social and political orientation.

7. El Portal

Three theaters in a restored 1926 movie and vaudeville house. Musicals are scheduled for the 386-seats theater. Company Rep and Theatre Tribe are the resident companies in the smaller stages.

8. Interact Theatre

An actor’s collective that presents new plays and classics, in addition to regular readings in an 80-seat space.
