Freeway Crash Kills Woman, Injures Man
A woman was killed and a man injured Friday when their stalled car was rear-ended by a big-rig truck and burst into flames.
The 9:36 a.m. crash on the northbound Golden State Freeway near Paxton Street forced closure of four lanes for nearly four hours.
Officials said the couple’s disabled car had been stopped in the No. 3 lane for several minutes before the truck slammed into it.
Witnesses pulled the man to safety but intense fire prevented them from reaching his female passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The names of the two were not released.
