American Airlines’ Appeal Is Rejected

Long Beach Airport Manager Chris Kunze has rejected an appeal by American Airlines requesting four permanent “slots” at the facility. The airline requested the slots earlier this year to fly to New York and Chicago.
Long Beach Airport, which limits the number of slots available for commercial flights to 41 because of a local noise ordinance, can’t allocate permanent slots to American because its remaining 27 slots are promised to upstart JetBlue Airways. American will use temporary slots to fly its new routes starting June 15.
The carrier will appeal Kunze’s decision to Long Beach City Manager Henry Taboada.
